Three questions to the project team

What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
We designed for anesthesiologists working in high-pressure clinical environments, where complex workflows and constant information processing are part of daily practice. Our goal was not only to improve usability, but also to help clinicians make faster decisions and perform critical tasks with confidence under pressure.
In healthcare, inefficient workflows or unclear information can impact clinical efficiency and potentially compromise safety. Guided by medical standards and safety requirements, we optimized key interactions and workflows to reduce cognitive load and improve overall efficiency.
Finding the right balance between simplicity, clinical rigor, and operational efficiency became the central UX challenge of this project.

What was your personal highlight in the development process? Was there an aha!-moment, was there a low point?
The most unforgettable moment was the clinical trial. Beside the operating table, we watched anesthesiologists use the anesthesia machine to complete a simulated surgery smoothly. The results showed clear reductions in both operation time and physical workload.
We realized that doctors use the machine not to admire its design, but to complete every step efficiently and ensure surgical safety. When our design truly saved them time and effort, we felt its real value.
In the early stage, repeated user tests revealed issues in software interaction and hardware design. Through continuous validation and iteration, the product moved closer to real clinical needs, with every improvement serving doctors’ workflows.

Where do you see yourself and the project in the next five years?
The Supaera 50 Series Anesthesia System nearing market launch. We hope it will help anesthesiologists improve decision-making efficiency and operational accuracy, reduce intraoperative risks, and support smoother surgical workflows while contributing to overall hospital efficiency.
Looking ahead, we will continue building on the insights gained from this project to explore the value of UX design in healthcare and drive complex medical devices toward greater efficiency, safety, and ease of use.
